We are the partner of choice in the global pharmaceutical industry for the development of complex injectable drug delivery products with improved therapeutic efficacy and fewer side effects. We are recognized as a customer-focused center of excellence with an unsurpassed drive to provide solutions for our rapidly growing international client base of pharmaceutical companies. Our multi-disciplinary team of around 45 experts is specialized in the development of microparticle-, gel- and implant-based injectable sustained release formulations for the treatment of a variety of chronic diseases. In addition to our highly versatile portfolio of proprietary biodegradable polymeric drug delivery technologies and an extensive track record in pharmaceutical development, we offer cGMP manufacturing of clinical supplies. Due to internal career progression and organizational growth, we are looking to strengthen our team with a Senior scientist Analytical Development.

Position Summary:

As a Senior Scientist in Analytical Development, you develop, optimize, and validate analytical methods (e.g., spectroscopy, chromatography, dissolution) to characterize complex sustained‑release formulations, including APIs and Innocore’s SynBiosys® and InGell® polymers. You lead analytical activities across the full product life cycle—from early feasibility to clinical supply—ensuring robust methods, high‑quality data, and strong scientific input for formulation development.

You independently design, plan, and execute method development and validation, taking scientific ownership and working with minimal supervision. You contribute to multiple project teams in parallel, collaborating closely with colleagues and customers. You select appropriate analytical strategies, provide expert data interpretation, and support decision‑making. When needed, you lead troubleshooting and root‑cause investigations with formulation, process, and polymer teams. You report to the Team Lead of the AD department.

Key Responsibilities:

As a senior scientist in the AD department you:

  • Take the lead in the development and validation of analytical methods for the characterization of polymers, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), and complex parenteral sustained release formulations.
  • Coordinate the analysis of stability samples, raw materials, intermediates, and finished products for which you are the point of contact for troubleshooting.
  • Set up scientific study designs in accordance with the customer proposal and interpret, report and present the results in an accurate, comprehensive way.
  • Work together and effectively collaborate with technicians, engineers and scientists in cross-functional project teams led by a Project Manager.
  • Contribute, together with other team members, to ensuring that the designed products meet project requirements and align with the Target Product Profile set with the customer.
  • Represent analytical work during client meetings, explaining results, scientific rationale and implications with clarity.
  • Take the lead in exploring new analytical applications or services to support the analysis of polymers, formulations, APIs, and process strategies.
  • Select, evaluate, and make recommendations for new equipment and coordinate/execute installation, qualification, calibration and/or maintenance activities.
  • Identify, design and ensure compliance with company procedures and actively contribute to operational excellence initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • MSc or PhD in analytical chemistry, (bio)chemistry, (bio)pharmaceutical sciences or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant analytical experience, or demonstrated equivalent expertise.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the Netherlands.

Talents and Behaviors:

  • You are an expert in qualitative and quantitative characterization of a wide variety of drug substances, but especially peptides and proteins, polymers and complex parenteral sustained release formulations.
  • You provide expert guidance to technicians, engineers, and scientists on complex analytical execution and planning.
  • You can generate creative ideas by thinking outside the box with a drive to get things done and consistently seeking ways of improving performance.
